Murchs who has just returned to New Zealand frcm Scotland Yard, has joined the-forjo investigating the esse. Two curs have been taken by "the police, but the absence of the cartridge case is a hampering feature. Paspalum and undergrowth in the vicinity are to be searched. Many avenu s have been investieated and statements obtained from farm employees and Maoris living in the native settlement at Rangjahua, about five miles away, but no enlightenment has resulted. I: was discovered to-day that Nelson bought a shotgun at Kaikohe on May 27, but the weapon was not taken to Nelson's home, being loft with friends some distance up the valley. Examination of the 1 dy shows that the gunshot entered the back at the left s.ce and travelled upwards, piercing the heart end lungs.and penetrating to the second rib on the right side, suggesting that the murderer lay on the ground behind the briar bush awaiting the victim. Further police reinforcements are expected to-morrow.
