N.Z. Observance of King’s

SPECIAL REQUEST OF KING EDWARD VIII. 'The funeral .ofthc late King Georgs ou Tuesday will be marked in New Zealand only by the observance of two minutes’ silence at 11 o’clock in the morning. A full day of national mourning was requested by the Prime Minister, Mr J. M, Savage, before King Edward’s announcement was made. Mr Savage has therefore cancelled earlier requests for suspension of business on the funeral day

In telegraphic advice to responsible authorities yesterday Mr Ravage stated the pub’ic was to be asked to adopt the new course. He added: It is desired, however, that individual churches to-morrow should hold appropriate services as already requested in the order of council on January 21.

The executive of the Taranaki Cricket Association last night communicated with Mr R. R. T. Holmes, captain of the M.C.C. touring team to play Taranaki at Pukekura Park on Monday and Wednesday. These dates will not he changed because the King ks patron of the M.C.C. and members do not desire to play on the day of the funeral
