AUGUSTUS JOHN'S RESIDENCE IN HAMPSHIRE

Returning home at 11.20 p.m. after visiting friends Mrs. John, wife of the artist, Augustus John, found their home at Fryerncourt, Hampshire, on fire and her husband, son, and a maid asleep in rooms above. She aroused them and all fought the flames until the arrival of the fire brigade. The dining room with antique furniture and paintings, seme by Augustus John, were burned.
