Four hundred firemen from 65 prominent companies were unsuccessful in a day-long fight to save an eight-storey Brooklyn hotel from destruction by fire in the city’s greatest conflagration of Isw year. Seventy-five tenants were routed into the cold as the building was completely gutted and the walls caved in. Many firemen were overcome with smoke and fatigue. The damage is estimated at £200,000.
