Beacons on Egniont On Sunday night, a party of climbers ushered in the new year by lighting flares and firing rockets from the summit of Egmont. The flares vere seen from the north and north-west, but many people who watched from Stratford were disappointed. The Ambulance Although it made its first official public appearance at the races yesterday tile Stratford Hospital Board’s new ambulance was requisitioned on Saturday evening to convey a Miranda Street resident to the hospital. Smith, who trained five winners, completing the hat-trick in the last three races. Altogether Smith won 11 races and had four seconds and five thirds. He drove nil the winners from, his stable with the exception of Worthy Light, who was driven by his mother in Jaw, C. Smith. Smith taking the drive behind the second horse Chancellor ,in the same race. Smith’s i ,-cord is one that will take a lot of beating.
