The most important result of the day was the defeat of E. L. Bartleet, the seeded Auckland player, in the second round of the men’s singles by H. Dymond, a promising young Christchurch player. ■ It was a thrilling five-set match, with Dymond too speedy for the elder man. Another spectacular match was that in which Seay and Malfroy, holders 6f the doubles title, defeated Andrews and J. N. Lowry in three fast sets; full of delightful tennis and fluctuating!fortune. 'Seay' and‘'Malfroy will be'particularly , hmxi, to. dispose .of, by gny.pgir,.. i Bartleet and Sturt were unexpectedly beaten in the doubles by Dymond and Rhodes-Williams, but the other results followed form and the leading, competitors, including both the Australians, Sproule and Donohoe, are left to fight matters out, with the prospects very open.
