UNEMPLOYMENT FUND

Press Association.—-(’opyriglu. Invercargill. Sept. 11. Replying to a deputation of relief workers to-day the Minister of Employment (the Hon. Adam Hamilton) referred to the unemployment fund. He said the revenue for the year was £4.300,000. which v/as £200,000 more than last year. The weekly income was £83.700, and they were spending over £90,000 a week. They were likely to ask the Minister of Finance for £IOO,OOO a week for the winter. He was pleased to say registrations were going down a little. The building scheme was taking men off the list, and the numbers were not rising at the peak period. What was very disturbing was the fact that there were applications for men in the country and the mer could not be found.
