SHORT-WAVE WIRELESS

Installation at Aerodromes Press Annotation. —OnriyHsrM. New Plymouth, Today. Short wave wireless is to be installed in several aerodromes throughout New Zealand, according to advice received this morning by Mr S. E. Neilson, secretary of the New Zealand Aero Club. The club had set up a technical sub-committee and after the report had been received, application was made for a wave length. The Post Office Secretary, Mr. (>. McNamara's, reply allots 2720 kilocycles, approximately 110 metres and further, states permission is granted a temporary expedient. It is understood however the Government merely reserves the right to withdraw permission if the system conflicts with the general telegraph and toll communication of the Dominion. The first installations will be at Auckland, New Plymouth, Hawera, Wanganul, Hastings, Masterton, Wellington, Blenheim, Christ--church, Dunedin, and Invercargill. Mr Neilson states the main purpose of the installations is for urgent weather reports, details of emergency flights and tracing the progress of a pilot who has not arrived at his destination in reasonable time. It will also assist with the general training of pupil pilots.
