TRAMCAR OUT OF CONTROL

Collapse of MGtorman PASSENGER'S PRESENCE OF MIND Press Association. —Copyright. Auckland, July in. A tramcar carrying a large number of theatregoers was out of control in Symonds Street for more than 100 yards to-night when the motorman, John Ryan, collapsed. Fortunately a passenger noticed what happened and his presence of mind alone saved Mr. Ryan from falling from the moving vehicle and allowed the conductor to stop the car. The car was one from Mount Eden. It failed to stop at a compulsory stop, and the passenger then saw the motorman had collapsed. He went forward and secured him. The conductor also hastened forward and stopped the car, which was gathering speed. Mr. Ryan was sent to hospital. His condition is not serious.
