MASQUERADE DANCE

Stratford Motor Sports Ckb • PRESENTATION OF TROPHIES The Stratford Motor Sports Club's masquerade fancy dress dance in the Parish Hall last evening was an' entire success. Merriment and mystification went together to create a jolly time unt'l 10.30, when everybody unmasked. Both before and after that time, however, people one never suspected as being anything but ordinary people suddenly blossomed into fictitious characters and acted the part well.

Thero was a good attendance, and once the crowd became used lo the novelty of the idea the fun was tei*rific. The master of ceremonies insisted upon the wearing of masks, and the absence of familiar features made people for whom familiarity may perhaps have bred contempt —in the sense of the proverb only—once more intriguing personalities. The prizes were awarded by Mrs. R. Macßae as follow: Ladies, Miss Dorothy Joyes, Hallow'een, 1; Mrs. W. Reed, Tramp, 2; men. Mr. G. C. Martin. Wellington, Spanish Grandee, 1. A special prize was awarded Miss Elma Sanderson, Spanish Lady. Mr. Ebbett, president of the club, in presenting the prizes won at the combined motor cycle club's meetings, referred to the tribuations of motor cyclists in the early days, and pointed out that the mounts of the club members were not; special machines, but only ordinary stock models. lie presented the trophies as follows:

Combined clubs' cut) for most points, Mr. F. Taylor (Elthain). Stratford Club's cuii for fastest quarler-mile, Mr. J. Fenton (New Plymouth), El- - Club's cup for 220 yards acceleration. Mr. J. Fention and Mr. J. ITeksn-i (Siraifordl. equal, 1; road hill climb, Mr. J. Fenton. On behalf of the younger cyclists, Mr. J. Fenton paid tribute to the wvit of the older members.
