MR. FORBES' MESSAGE

DEPARTURE FOR LONDON SYMPATHY WITH THE PEOPLE CONFERENCE Press Association. —Copyright. Wellington, Today. "On the eve of my departure for the World Economic Conference," says Mr. Forbes in a statement today, "I desire to express to my fellow citizens my heartfelt sympathy with theiu in the serious and difficult time through which they are passing. 1 realise there is no household free from anxiety for the future and that : all sections of the community are feeling the strain." He continues: "This position arises ' out of the catastrophic fall in world markets. Au improvement in these ' markets will be immediately reflected in improved conditions in the Dominion. The conference is meeting for the purpose of devising some plan by which this improvement may be brought about. As every nation is in the same plight as New Zealand, the issues are too urgent and too great for anything but the most serious consideration by the conference and every endeavour should be made to prevent selfish motives from defeating the object for which the conference is called." Mr. Forbes said his fervent hopo is that the conference will be a success, that ever long the dark clouds will pass away and the spectre of unemployment will be banished from our midst. Ho fully realised the problems the Government have to deal with during his absence, but he leaves with the utmost confidence in Mr. Coates and his other colleagues, and knows the affairs of the Dominion are in competent hands.
