BOOTS FOR UNEMPLOYED
Minister Outlines Scheme DAY'S WORK FOR A PAIR Reply to Objections Expressed Press Association.— Copyright. Auckland, Today. Details of the Unemployment Board's proposal to supply boots to the unemployed was given by the Minister, Hon. A. Hamilton, today. An intermittent relief worker on Scheme 5 will be given the opportunity to work one extra day, for which he will receive an order entnling him to a new pair oi: working boots of a value much in excess of an ordinary day's pay. In addition, boys', girls', and women's footwear will be supplied for cash at below cost. Men's working boots will be first dealt with. Application forms and samples of boots will be available at all bureaux within two or three weeks. Preference will be given to unemployed who have been on Scheme 5 rationed work for over 2G weeks continuously. The Minister, referring to possible objections of the retailers, says men continuously on relief cannot afford to buy boots, and this scheme will mean placing in steady work at standard wages men and women who will become better customers of the retailer.
