DISARMAMENT
——o Conference Adjourns Pi’6ss Association —Copyright Geneva, May 9. Unable to discover an acceptable course of action the procedure committee of the Disarmament Conference adjourned to-day after strenuous efforts had been made to persuade Germany to abandon its opposition to the standardisation of armies, whk*h is an essential part of the British plan. The German War Minister, Herr Blomberg, in a statement to the Press denies that Germany is wilfully obstructing the Disarmament Conference. He declared that the proposal to impose the French system of short service militia ignored the interests of the Reich, which could not be expected to switch over from an army with’ a twelve years’ period of service to one of only nine months. The time for dictating to the Reich was now over. Germany’s attitude would depend on the extent of disarmament by other nations. Germany would come to no decision until that was known.
