The board of the New Zealand Trotting Association to-day received a letter from the Rotorua Trotting Club asking if it would be permissible to include in its programme a local saddle event for which the prize would be a trophy only, the race to be purely amateur in character. The association replied that there ; would be no objection provided the i horses and riders were registered. [ The stipendiary steward reported the ■ unsatisfactory starting of a trotting event ; at the South Canterbury Jockey Club’s meeting. Ho stated that if a qualified trotting starter had been employed the mistake could not have occurred. It was decided to circularise racing clubs including trotting events on their programmes that wherever possible qualified trotting starters should afficiate for the ! trotting events.
