Sir John Simon, replying in the House of Commons to a question, said the work of co-ordinating the various efforts to effect the release of the British officers kidnapped from the steamer Nanchang had been entrusted to the head of the provincial Government police at Mukden. No positive result had yet been achieved, but he was informed there was no truth in the report that one of the prisoners had been killed in the course of a tight between the band in whose hands they were and another band of brigands.
