ASSAULT ON GIRL
Masterton House Entered by Strange Man MAID’S EXPERIENCE Press Association. —Copyright. Masterton, May 9. To be grabbed by the throat, thrown to the ground, and roughly handled by an unknown intruder, was the experience of a maid, who was alone in the house of her employers in Queen Alexandra Street, Lansdowne. According to the girl’s statement, she heard a noise in the front of the house, and on going lo investigate came face to face with her assailant, who grabbed her by the throat and struggled with her until she fainted. The intruder then made his way out of the house as quickly as possible without attracting the attention of a gardener who was working in the grounds, or of the neighbours. By the time the girl had recovered he was not to be seen. It is thought that the intruder made his escape over the back fence of the property, leading to a paddock and thence to Opaki Road. The happening took place during the absence of the girl’s employers. On an investigation being made it was found that nothing had been taken. The girl was unable to give the police more than a sketchy description of her assailant.
