Plot to Overthrow Spanish Government MONARCHIST CONSPIRACY Press Association —Copyright Reed. Today, 1 p.m. Madrid, May 8. A plot for the overthrow of the Government was discovered. General Goded, who with General Franco, was responsible for the fall of the Dictatorship, has been deported to the Canary Islands for alleged complicity in the Monarchist conspiracy. General Orgaz fled to Portugal. The discovery of the plot was due to the chance arrest of a jewel thief. The movement depended upon the collaboration of troops in the Basque province, where the religious issue has created unrest. Barcelona, et created unrest, Barcelona, VaJladolia and Valencia being expected to assist in a bloodless rebellion, exiling the Cabinet to make room for a, Right. Wing majority and possibly restore the monarchy. Widespread precautions are being taken, particularly in view of the prospects of a large Syndicalist strike.
