GERMAN AMENDMENTS

British Draft Convention

EQUALITY r N ARMAMENTS

British Wireless. Rugby, May 5. The German disarmament amendments to the British draft convention published at Geneva demand recognition of the right of Germany to equality in armaments in the event of no further reduction being made in the arms of other Powers and the abolition of submarines and naval and military aircraft. The hope is expressed that the reduction in the naval armaments of the big naval Powers will be brought about by 1935, failing which Germany will demand equality with other nations. Meanwhile Germany will keep her arms within the limits of the Versailles Treaty. The bureau will discuss the German amendment on Monday.

Captain R. A. Eden, Under-Secretary of Foreign Affairs, has returned to London and conferred with the Ministers on the present position of the Disarmament Conference and returns to Geneva on Sunday. He held conversation with the Prime Minister, who will return with him to Geneva.

Germany’s amendments to the British draft convention include a proposal to abolish submarines. * f
