TO-MORROW is Anzac Day—a day of remembrance and reverence of the glorious deeds of the soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice in the Great War, arid particularly on the shores of the Gallipoli Peninsula eighteen years ago. Whatever may have been the value of the operations at the Dardanelles, the fact remains that its significance cannot be underestimated. It just failed, and the Turkish-Commander-in-Chief has admitted that victory was just knocking at the door. The spirit commemorated in the Anzac Day services is that glorious spirit of sacrifice for a cause, of which those who fought may not had a full understanding .Therefore it is fitting that the c- 1 "brat ion of Anzac Day should be a national event, though unfortunately with the passing of the years the day lias become more one of holiday than one of reverence. But when we bow in reverence for the rrlorious deeds and those who laid clown I heir lives in the Fmpire's cause, we should not forget our duty to [hose who came back. Thousands of -vr returned soldiers are in desperate straits, and we are not doing all that we should for them. The promises made bv top-hatted and smue stay-at-homes to the accompaniment: of flag waving and bard plaving have not been kept, and have proved themselves to be hollow and meanintdess things.
