When the British steamer Antiope berthed at Glebe Island on April 7 on arrival from China, says a Sydney newspaper, every member of the crew was anxious to go ashore for a stroll. On February 7 they left Fremantle for Takuabar, the seaport of Tientsin, China, with a cargo of wheat. As the water up the river was shallow, they anchored 12 miles from land, and the cargo was lightered ashore.
