DISAPPOINTMENT EXPRESSED

Prior to the election of a committee j at the annual meeting of the Cili-j zens' Committee of the Stratford Band last night the chairman, Mr. W. Clarke, in referring to the small number of business men at. the meeting, deplored the lack of support from the business community to the band anil alleged Hint (here was a certain element in the town that was working againsl the band. "I think we should defer the election till another meeting and if the business people do not. attend then I say the management of (he affairs of the band should revert, lo the hand or to the council," Mr. Clarke stated. "The band,'" lie continued, "does not receive tile support from the citizens that it should gel. Unless we are very careful in the future there is j liable to lie a. breach. 1 would very; much regret anything of that nature j because we have had enough of it. in j the past." Mr. A. E. Hunter agreed thai earo should he observed in electing a coin mittce, but he did not. favour deferring the election of a committee. 11' the business people were not interest- | ed enough to attend the meeting they | would not be likely to attend another ' meeting except, under pressure, which j he did not consider desirable. j If two or three leading citizens j could be prevailed on to stand behind i iho band he would prefer such an ar- I rangement to electing a committee. (he chairman said. No assistance bad been received from the business peo- I pie and seeing that 'he band was an I asset to the town he thought (he business community should support it fin- I ancially.

Mr. F. E. Trim pointed out that the business community had not been ap-pro'-hed fur assistance. "The business people have been approached, but not since Mr. Trim came to Stratford," the chairman remarked.

"Bands and fire brigades always get all the kicks and no thanks, but I think we should keep all personalities out of the matter," Mr. Trim replied.

It was generally resolved to proceed With the election of a committee.
