PUBLIC OPINION

"'\ o f; BOROUGH ELECTIONS i i, (To the Editor.) Sir,—lt is pleasing to note so many jpublic-spirited citizens offering for election to municipal honours and it is to bo hoped burgesses will show sufficient interest to record intelligent voting on polling day. With a view of stirring up real interest might I suggest that all candidates assemble at the Town Hall on a night to be decided upon when a ten-minutes' address by each contestant be given irom the platform. This would prove ■m, decided draw and a small charge of [sixpence for body seats and one shilling for circle for admission would realise a goodly sum. which could be devoted to the winter relief fund. Another night could possibly be devoted to the mayor candidates for halfhour speeches—a charge here could be made, proceeds to go toward the same fund. Perhaps the Ratepayers' Association might show sufficient interest to. bring this about.—l am, etc., RATEPAYER.
