THE WOOL MARKET
Against the continued) decline olf dairy produce prices, the recent improvement in the wool market is some compensation. Judging by Mr. W. P. Devereaux’s last report from London, there is a better tone for wool. It may surprise readers that Germany is absorbing large quantities of the raw material in spite of the social turmoil as daily reported in the newspapers. It would be as well to remember, however, that in the post-war years from 1922 onward Germany has kept steadily at work, improving her industrial machine and increasing the output. The Germans are a very industrious people, with politics as a side line for most of them. Nor does that remark apply only to Germany. In any country, during war or civil commotion, the great mass of the people carry on as usual. The world’s work gets done in spite of, rather than because of, the efforts of the politicians.
