Easter Tournament KAPONGA AND TARIKI A seven-a-side tournament at Kaponga on Easter Saturday and a ten-a-side tournament at Tariki on Easter Monday officially opened, to a large extent, the Rugby football season in Taranaki as practically every club in the province was represented at one or both of the tourneys. The standard of play was excellent. Old supporters of the game who have closely followed it for many years expressed the opinion that the exhibitions were better than have been seen for seasons. Play was clean, open, and in many instances pretty and brillant, sc that spectators were provided with plenty of football thrills. Both at Kaponga and at Tariki teams from the Star Club (New Plymouth) were the winners. Kaponga were runners-up at the Kaponga tournament and Toko at the Tariki tournament.

The Celtic Club was represented at Kaponga by: "A" Team: J. Lash, F. Young, J. Carryer, W. Cook, J. Henry, G. Wellington, J, Walker. "B" Team: Walsh, Ritter, McCluggage, Haselden, I. McCready, F. Aitken, L. Lash.

In the first round Celtic B were defeated by. Eltham by eight points (two tries, one converted) to nil. Celtic A defeated Kaponga by six points (two unconverted tries) to three (one unconverted try). Walker and Young scored.

In the second round Celtic were eliminated by Lower Hutt, who scored eight points (one converted and one unconverted try) to five points (a converted try). Celtic played a dashing game and lost after a hard, close game. Star (15) defeated Kaponga A (3) in the final. THE TARIKI TOURNEY At Tariki yesterday fourteen teams competed in a ten-a-side tournament held under the auspices of the Tariki Sports and Pastimes Club. Star emerged the winners by defeating Toko i.n the final by six points to nil.

The Stratford Club was represented by R. Hinton, Pat. Fastier, P. Collins,. R. Berg, R. Paynter, J. Tubby, E. Jones, C. Faulkner, J. Richards, W. Fastier. The Celtic Club was represented by Aitken, Lash, Lister, Young, MeCluggage, Lilley, Ritter, Walker, Richardson. In the first round Celtic defeated Tariki B by 11 points to 0. Lilley scored first for Celtic, taking the ball from a kick and successfully running down. J. Walker failed to convert. Celtic again pressed forward, McCluggage scoring. F. Young soon afterwards ran through to score and convert. Mr. W. V. Harkness refereed.

Stratford defeated Tukapa by five points to three. The forwards started with bustling tactics and Papps went down on the ball ten yards out from the Tukapa goal, but the ball was kicked out of his hands and Paynter on the wing snapped it up to score, Fastier converting. Lock kicked through and foil on the ball in a scramble on the line, the kick failing. Mr. Ritter was referee.

Celtic was eliminated by Star in the second round by eight points (two tries, one converted) to nil. Stratford were defeated by Toko by the narrow margin of three points (a penalty goal) to nil.
