! OBSERVANCE IN STRATFORD

I At the monthly meeting of the I Stratford Hospital Board held today j a letter was received from the Hospital Boards' Association of. New Zealand iu regard to National Hospital Day, which is observed on the Sun- ; day nearest the birthday anniversary j of Florence Nightingale, which fails ! tnis year on May 14. It was pointed out that the day has ! been observed for a number of years iin the United States, Canada and j Europe, and is the occasion for spei cial mention in the churches of the | religious idea behind the hospi- ' tal work. The observance of this day j in New Zealand was initiated at Dun- | ediu some years ago, the chairman )t I the National Hospital Day movement i being Mr. W. E. S. Knight, chairman jof the Otago Hospital Board. It 'S ! not a day lor collection, but is the I occasion for stimulating tho public I interest in the work of our hospitals. I The usual programme, as observed \ in Dunedin for some years past, is: j (1) Special services in the. churches attended by members of the Hospi i tal Board and staff with nurses m ! uniform. (2) Reunio i of present and I past hospital nursi i and the Nurses' i Home on May i2 >v 13. ('■'>) Visit of I girls from secondary schools to lios- ' pitals upon a suitable day so thai 'they may be irerested in the work j of hospitals and the nursing of pati- ! cnts.

I It was suggested that some suit- ; able arrangements be made for the j observance of the day in this disj irk;l. Referring to the matter, the chairman, Mr. W. L.
