Dunedin, April 13. —Dunedin is sfill crying out for water, the reservoirs being low and necessitating restrictions on the supply. A scheme to augment the supply by bringing water from Deep Creek has been approved by the city council. The water committee recommended obtaining 2,500,000 gallons a day at a total estimated cost of £IBO,OOO. The work presents no engineering difficulties, and the scheme is capable of considerable extension to meet future needs. The daily requirements of Dunedin are 4,908,000 gallons.
The work would involve an expenditure of about £140,000 in labour, and should provide employment for a considerable number of men.
