MAY DISBAND

AUCKLAND UMPIRES' ASSOCIATION Owing to dissatisfaction with its treatment by the Auckland Cricket Association there is every likelihood that the Auckland Umpires' Association will disband. It is understood the umpires for some time have considered the controlling body has not given them the necessary support and encouragement with regard to representative and test match appointments. At the last meeting of the Umpires' Association a motion was moved that it should disband. An amendment was carried that the proposal be held over pending consideration of the rules of the Canterbury Umpires' Association. Dissatisfaction is expressed by umpires over the appointments of officials for the two test matches against the English team. It ie stated no names of Aucklanders were forwarded for consideration by the New Zealand Council. The umpires consider the Auckland association could have taken the matter up and given them support. The active membership of the Umpires' Association is about 15, and it was formed six years ago.
