Mrs Budge was at home on Wed nesday afternoon.

Bridge hostesses this week were: Mrs Fredric, Hrs Hunt and Mrs Budge.

Mrs North gave a very enjoyable party on Wednesday night as farewell for Mrs Clarke, who leaves shortly. Those present were: Mrs Furrie, Mrs Newell, Mrs Wynyard, Mrs Graham, Mrs Neal, Mrs W. Boon, Mrs Armstrong, Mrs R. Tyrer, Mrs Parsloe, Miss Porritt, Miss Curd, Miss Coleman, Miss H. Penn, Miss R. Furrie, the Misses Z. and O. Masters, the Misses Bremner, Miss Max Skoglund. A presentation was made to Mrs. Clarke as a remembrance of her Stratford friends. The party was arranged by Mrs Parsloe and Miss Grace North. The first bridge prize was won by Mrs Armstrong and the hidden number by Miss Helen Bremner.

A delightful party was organised by Mrs Carter as farewell to Mrs Carryer, who leaves on Monday to take up her residence in New Plymouth. Those present were: Mrs Carter, Mrs Robins, Mrs Bishop, Mrs R'etrie), Mrs ,Markf, Mrs Ejickinson, Mrs Johnston, Mrs R. H. White, Mrs Dickson, Mrs Dick, Mrs Chas. Penn, Mrs Fisher, Mrs Weston, Miss Carryer, Miss Rogers, Miss Chadwick, Miss Squire. Mrs Chas. Penn made a charming little speech when presenting Mrs Carryer with a hanlsome crystal perfume jar on behalf of her many friends. Mrs Carryer suitably responded. Much regret was expressed by all at Mrs Carryer's departure.

Little Miss Jean Armstrong was hostess of a very jolly party on Monday, the occasion being her birthday. Present were: Miss Audrey Dickinson, Misses Ailsa Aitken and Eljean Aitken, Miss Marcia Allen, Misses Lola Peters, Phyllis Peters and Kathleen Peters, Miss Dorothy Carryer, Miss Molly Batten, Miss Annette Haselden, Miss Jean Hedgeman, Miss Joan Mark, Miss Shirley Jeffries, Miss Rona Young, Misses Rita and Kathleen Gibson. There was a most exciting treasure hun, an Easter egg in a nest, finally discovered by Miss Jean Hedgman, who also won the potato race, a dead heat with Dr. Armstrong. There were all sorts of delightful games. No one wanted to go home.

The monthly meeting of the Stratford Girl Guides' Committee was held on Thursday!. Those present were: Mrs Moon (president), Mrs Bowler, Mrs Hale, Mrs White, Mrs Anderson, Mrs Dick and Miss Cable. Apologies were read from Mrs Masters and Mrs Steven. Captain Close reported good attendances during the month. Guides Rhoda and Freddie Black were successful in winning tho Brewster life saving shield. Miss Mona Femmell, acting Brown Owl, forwarded a compresensive report of work done by the Brownies. There is to be a bridge evening in the Windsor Tea Rooms soon in aid of the Girl Guide funds. The Brownies are having a birthday party the Saturday after Easter. # * *

A most enjoyable garden party was held on Thursday in the grounds of the Methodist Parsonage. There were visitors from the surrounding districts enjoying the fete. Rev. and Mrs Skuse welcomed the guests. The work stall in charge of Mrs McAlister, Mrs Hall and Mrs Moran, was kept very busy. Mrs Moon and Mrs Pepperill were in charge of the clock croquet, which proved most popular. Miss Hopkins was in charge of the music. The weather was delightful, which helped to make the function a successful affair. jSomo of those present were: Mrs and Miss Marsh, Mrs Gatton, Mrs Booth, Mrs Dickinson, Mrs White, Mrs R. Carryev, Mrs Bellringer, Mrs Commons (Patea), Mrs Lentil (Midhirst), Mrs J. Hall (Midhirst), Mrs. R. H. White, Mrs Mackay, Mrs Crocket, Mrs Jago, Mrs and Miss Fenwick, Mrs O'Carrol, Mrs Porter, Mrs Bell (Midhirst), Mrs Wellington (Wharehuia), Mrs Guthrie, Mrs Dickinson, Mrs Foster, Mrs Hillock, Mrs Pepperill, Miss Almsbury (New Plymouth), Mrs Seddon (Wellington), Mrs Marchant (Cardiff), Miss Hopkins, Mrs F. Much interest was taken in the croquet championship match on Monday. The finals were played between Mrs Hillock and Mrs Brocklebank, the former winning by a very small margin. The Stratford lawns were in splendid order and quite a number of enthusiasts were present.
