Struck on the head iast evening by a man who stepped out from behind a hedge, Mr. A. Browning, an engineer, living at 70 Hataitai Road, received a severe gash** that required medical attention, says the Dominion.

Mr. Brewning was returning home shortly after nine o’clock, and was coming up the pathway, ’ leading to his house, which stands back about 25 yards from the road, when Ik; was attacked.

The pathway passes through a hedge, one side of which was in darkness when the assault occurred, and just at the moment when Mr. Browning passed through the hedge a man stepped out from the sheltered side and struck him.

Mr. Browning was almftst at his own back door when ho was assaulted, and, upon his crying out, the attacker fled. The Free Ambulance was summoned and took Mr. Bhowning to Wellington Hospital where he was given attention. Later he was returned to his home.
