VERDICT AT INQUEST

Whakatane, May 8. —A verdict that death was due to heart failure was returned by the coroner, Mr. G. A. Brabant, at the inquest held last evening concerning the death of Gordon Middlecott Davies, aged 10, who collapsed and died while unaer an anaesthetic yesterday in a Whakatane dental surgery. . , Evidence was given that the boy had suffered for some time from chronic sepsis and before administering a general anaesthetic the dentist, Mr. W. R. Sloane, communicated with a doctor who had been treating the boy. Dr. Frazerhurst, of Whakatane, who administered the anaesthetic, stated in evidence that he had examined the boy •thoroughly before administering the anaesthetic, but it apeared that no trouble would be experienced, as the boy submitted to the anaesthetic quietly without any struggling. After two teeth had been extracted the boy showed signs of collapse, and although resuscitation treatment was carried out for two hours the boy did not regain consciousness.
