FINNERTY ROAD
HOW IT GOT ITS NAME It is generally thought that Finnei'ty Road in the Ngaei'e district was surveyed by the lat e Captain Fin. nerty after whom it is named. That is not so. The road was surveyed by Mr Climie, audi Climie Road named after Mr ClimiJ was surveyed by Captain Finnerty. Surveyors very frequently named roads and trig stations after one another and sometimes when names "ran out" those of dogs were used. Marco Road was named after a dog which was owned by one of the survey party and there are several other., instances in the district in which this practice was followed. •
