Mr. H. E. HOLLAND

(Leader of the Opposition) “Those, of us , who represent districts where the construction of much-needed railways has been discontinued will join in congratulating the more fortunate districts of Stratford and Waimarino on the completion of the railway connecting Stratford with the Northern. Main Trunk Line. I have .always held that railway extension and 'development must figure as an important factor in the future economic organisation of New . Zealand. From the viewpoint of both production and distribution the railway plays an effective part; and I have no doubt whatever that the Stratford-Main Trunk line will prove to be an influence making: for the closer settlement and the quickening of the fpr.oductive actualities and potentialities of the areas through which its length of rail are laid. I send beat -wishes for a successful opening ceremony.”
