SOUTHERN PRODUCE MARKETS

WHEAT AND OATS QUIET GOOD PRICES FOR POTATOES The following report, is supplied by Ihe local manager of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co, Ltd.: Reports to hand from Dunedin are to the effect, as follows: Oats Very little business passing in this commodity at present, and if would appeal' that a fair quantity of undergrades will be carried over unless something unforeseen crops up. Only odd lines of grade oats, principally Bees, are finding buyers meantime. There is approximately an increase of 43,000 acres over last year sown-in oats, which will no d«ubt have a disastrous effect on next season's trading operations. Already there has been a considerable number of sales made :if grade oats for spread delivery April to September, 1933. Whea<: 'Phis market continues quiet as (here is practically no milling wheat now available locally. Fowl wheat is in limited demand. According to the latest statistics there is approximately 13,400 acres more sown in wheat this year than last, and with this increase and the probabality of greater crops, it. would not. be. surprising to see considerably lower values for both the milling and fowl wheat. Potatoes Kales of old tubers freshly picked over art; finding a, ready market, and good prices are being obtained. it is considered that a, fairly large quantity of potatoes have been sold tor forward delivery at fairly low values. There is a. decreased acreage of about 250(1 acres compared with last. season. Should Canterbury have a normal year this should more than make up for the lesser area sown in Otago.
