PROTEST AGAINST "BOBBY" CALF TRADE
-•Exaction OF S.P.C.A. At the monthly meeting of the Stratford sub provincial executive of the • Farmers' Onion held on Saturday the secretary, Mr H. A. Hunt, presented a report of the meeting of the North Taranaki executive which discussed the action taken .by the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, who had forwarded a letter to England requesting that they oppose the buying of New Zealand veal as the bobby calves were shamefully treated before being killed. Continuing, the secretary said that the Farmers' Union had asked the society to withdraw the letter as it was a bad thing for New Zealand trade which would be condemned because of a few isolated cases. It was suggested that the society work with the Farmers' Union in the endeavour to eliminate the difliculty. Mr Hunt said that, he was pleased to be aide to say that the letter was to be withdrawn especially as this trade was one of flie greatest assitanee to farmers nowadays as well as being a profitable primary industry U> the Dominion. It was resolved that the meeting express its regret io the action taken by the president of the society, and considered that the society Drst eon for with the Farmers' Union and before another season starts an en. deavour be made to avoid overlapping j in collecting calves and save undue , transport charges and delay. ;
