EGMONT PARK BOARD

FORMATION OF COMMITTEE Under the Egmont National Park Act, 1024, provision was made for the formation of the Egmonl National Park Board consisting of tho Commissioner of Crown Lands, two persons appointed by the North Ifigmont Committee, two by the South Committee (Dawson Falls), two by the East Committee, one by the West Commit ten and two by the Governor General. The committees in turn were appointed by constituent local bodies, the appointing local authorities for tho East Committee being tho Inglewood, Borough Council, the Inglewood County Council, Stratford Borough Council, Stratford County Council and the Whangamomona County Council, who each appointed two representatives to the Egmoilt National Park Board.

The first committee under this Act met on March 30, 1925, and comprised Messrs P, Thomson and L. T. Aylward (Stratford Borough); J. T. Belcher and T. R. Anderson (Stratford County); A. It. Meredith aild N. It. Clelaud (Whangamomona County); It. Stewart and E A. Lawrence (Inglewood County).

Mr Aylward was almost immediately transferred to New Plymouth and the Stratford Borough approach, ed Mr J. C. Robins to accept nomination and he was appointed chairman at a meeting held on July 23, 192!'), a position he has held continuously since that date and Messrs Thomson, Anderson and Belcher have also been members continuously. At a later date the Inglewood representatives were transferred to the North Committee and the work was carried on by the Stratford Borough and County representatives until the appointment of Messrs W. L. Kennedy and J. McCluggage by the Whangamomona County Council on March 31, 1027, On the death of Mr McCluggage towards the end of 1928, Mr C. R. Finneity was appointed by the Whangamomona County Council in his stead, since which date there has heen no alteration in local body representation on the committee. 'When the Stratford Mountain Club was formed ami the South TaranakiAutomobile Association, the committee invited these two bodies, who were very interested in the development of the mountain, to send two representatives to the committee's meetings to assist in an advisory capacity, and for the last five years representatives have assisted on the committee the present members being Dr W. P. Gordon (Stratford Mountain Club), Messrs J. C. Allen , and W. E. Williams (South Taranaki Automobile Association).
