PUBLIC OPINION

WATER SUPPLY i |! - J. -.• (To the Editor) \ Sir,— , . . With the number of unemployed m Stratford there seems to be a good chance of carrying cut a work which is a vital necessity to this Borough. I refer to our water supply, which it is not using too strong a term to call a disgrace to a town. As is generally known, there is no reservoir here, the intake being just en the river below a road, and the result is that mud, filth and so on can get into the pipes. This is detrimental to ball taps, etc., to say nothing of a danger to health. Unemployed labour might be used in the construction of a reservoir. The chief expense would be labour, and the whole thing would be in readiness when ihe money is available to run a fresh line of pipes, which is an absolute necessity. This would be a better way of using available men than carrying out a good deal •£ unnecessary work that has been done in the past. 1 hope the Council will consider this suggestion, which 1 ofter in the interests of the Borough and the unemployed.—l am, etc., .
