The situation came to- a head--ftitii a shipment .in April of 49 logs which were .certified as fresh cut .and reasonably .free from pin doubla heart and ilange, but they were ar .legedly found to. be not fresh cut ar,,fl irregular in .shape, with dettctiv, hearts, and were from 10, to 100 per ■cent. loss. , , ;.. .r, ' . Many large .furniture, factories which had desired veneers frojh these timbers Have cancelled orders, it is understood the Australian federal authorities are concerned over the future of the hardwood trade, which recently has shown interesting possibilities of developing. Jo Nortn : /Itis° learned that one Qf the largest hardwood importers wrote: it. vou .continue to ship poor.grade logs to the United States at a high price we are afraid you will spoil the market'.and prevent further business.
