CHOICE CATTLE

AT ARMY BOYS’ HOME This week Commissioner Cunningham, who saw considerable experience as a farmer in the Old Country, paid a visit to the Salvation Army Boys’ Home at Eltham, and inspected the instiute’s fine herd of dairy cows. The Commissioner was greatly impressed with the line of eighteen 2-year-old Jersey cross heifers recently selected for the home by Mr. E. Newland, who acts as honorary adviser to the Army’s farm department. The heifers are a splendid line and are giving a great account of themselves at the bucket, The Commissioner remarked at the inspection that the heifers in question were the best he had seen at any of the Army institutions. It is the intention of the home to gradually work up a herd of pedigree Jerseys, a nucleus of which has already been established, by choice selections kindly made by Mr. Newland.
