LICENSING SHOWMEN

PROBLEM FOR A. AND P. ASSOCIATION -■•■•a* With the object of protecting the public, the North Island Agricultural Association have in the making a scheme for registration of side-show men. It is intended, once uniformity is reached, particularly with regard to the South Island, to appeal for legislative backing to the proposals. At the last meeting of the executive of the Wanganui Association a brief reference was made to the intentions, of combined associations. Polity Commissioner W. G. Wohlmann at-* tended an executive meeting in Pal-* merston North and thoroughly discussed the problem. He expressed concern for the South island, where there was no body to undertake control. The executive expressed tha opinion that a system of licensing could be introduced which could be bandied by a central secretary. The absence of a combined association in the South Island was a handicap, but it was intended to look into the matter at the next Royal Show. In the meantime the North Island executive is to have a scheme framed ready for the approval of next conference.
