GOLF NOTES

(By Niblick.) The 1031 golf season is now Hearing an end. Tiie closing day seems gradually to be getting later and 'later in the year. Some of the smaller clubs whose resources do not admit of cutting the grass have to close early in September, but even these clubs are now finding the means in most cases to keep the course playable at least until October. It is probably true of most New Zealand courses that golf is played under the most pleasant conditions in October and Novefber. It seems a pity that just as tilings are becoming really attractive the official season should end and that most players should put away their clubs until the autumn. From the viewpoint of the conditions of the course for play, this year has probably been the least enjoyable in the history of the club. The local men's senior championship was decided during the weekend and we all wish to congratulate Mr. Green on his win. His opponent, Mr. L. Curtis, also desorves praise for a steady and accurate game of golf. Superior putting by the victor was responsible for the winning of many holes.

The junior championship has reached, the final stage where Mr. J. Sullivan meets Mr. R. Strachan. In the semi-final of the Ladies' Senior Championship Mrs. Green beat Miss J. Sangster. The final will he played between Mrs. Green and the winner of the match between Mrs. Moon and Miss North. Mrs. Bowler plays Mrs. Seyb and the winner plays Mrs. Ryan in the final of the junior competition. The first, round of the Captain's prize resulted:—Mrs. Seyb beat Miss Penn, Mrs. Fryday beat Mrs. Boon, Mrs. Ryan beat Miss Chadwick, and Mrs. Knewstubb beat Miss Anderson. Our sole representative in the New Zealand golf championship is Mrs. L. R. Curtis. We wish her every sue-' cess.
