MT. EGMONT ROAD

INVITATION TO MOTORISTS MOUNTAIN DAY Members of the Automobile Association are requested to assemble at the Stratford Post Office at 1.30. p.m. to-morrow for the run to the East Mountain House in connection with the Mountain Day organised by the East Committee, Opportunity is thus afforded to visit the house by the new two-way road just completed by the Public Works Department and handed over to the committee. The committee invite motorists to take their car and friends over a mile of road above the house on the new tourist road which, when completed, will be 4,000 feet above sea-level. Given fine weather, the outing should be very enjoyable. The fact that there is now a two-way road is of great importance not only to the East Committee in the interests of the house, but also to Stratford business people and the residents as a whole. The East House is only nine miles by road from the railway station, and, the house can be reached by car in half an hour. This factor in favour of the East House should be impressed upon visitors on every possible occasion, and in this respect residents can assist in advertising the claims of the house very materially. Mountain Day is the outcome of the suggestion made by the Mayor, Mr. P» Thomson, that once a year at least the people should be invited to inspect what the committee has done and informed of the projects in hand to make the East House a popular resort all the year round. The proposals of the committee in regard to popularising winter sport at the housei are rapidly being put into shape and to-morrow’s trip will giv* visitors every opportunity of becoming acquainted with the details. t
