MAN GIVEN ANOTHER CHANCE Press Association. —Copyright. WAItfCTNUI, This Day. "Understand, I am giving you this chance because of your wife. It is to her that you owe your liberty," said Mr. J. H. Salmon, S.M., to J.H. Campbell, when admitting him to 12 months' probation" n"nd ordering him to make restitution. Campbell was charged with incurring debts by false pretences. The evidence showed that the accused had secured goods from the Maypole Store at Aramoho by falsely declaring that he was an agent of Dalgety and Co. He also incurred a debt with Messrs. Alderton Bros, by the same method. The accused was an ex-jockey who was unable to secure rides owing to increasing weight. On January 20 Campbell consigned his effects to Christchurch. He told the Maypole Stores that he was going to Wellington to take over a" job with the tramway department. An account was sent care of the given address, but this was returned.
