Mr. S. B. Hunter has left on a trip to America. Dr. Armstrong, who is to commence practice "in Stratford, has taken Mr. J\ W. Boon's house in Regan Street. Mr. M. S. Hughson, secretary of the Taranaki Chain Stores, Ltd., is at present, on his annual holiday, which is being spent on Mount Egmont. Mr. W. H. Gregory, who is New Zealand representative for Sternol, Ltd., London, Is at the Stratford Hotel. Mr. C. C. Johnston, secretary to the Stratford Football Club, was present "at the annual meeting last evening, after an absence from active operations owing to ill-health, and was warmly welcomed by the members. The Stratford School Committee, at its monthly meeting last evening, resolved to send a letter of appreciation to Nurse Whiteside, now of Onehunga Dental Clinic, for her work at the school clinic in the past. Mr. R. F. Harkness, chairman of the management committee of the Stratford Football Club, presided at the annual meeting in the Gymnasium last night, in the absence of the president, the Hon. R. Masters, M.L.C., when there was an attendance of more than 30 members. Mr. Francis Keightley, a Taranaki pioneer, passed away at Hamilton on Sunday at the age of 75 years. Mr. Keightley was born at Alfrid, Lincolnshire, and came to New Zealand 56 years ago, being one of the pioneer surveyors. He lived at Inglewood, Stratford and Midhirst and was one of those who cleared the present site of Stratford. Mr. Keightley was farming in the Midhirst district for many years, and about 14 years ago moved to Springdale, Waitoa, where he farmed until his retirement eight years ago, when he went to Hamilton to live. He is survived by five sons, four of whom are residing at Springdale, and four daughters. Mrs. Keightley died five years ago. Two sons were killed in the Great War. Mr. Keightley was a lay preacherjn the Methodist Church. When a young man he was a prominent Taranaki footballer.
