PALMERSTON N., March 21. The Manawatu autumn meeting was opened in fine weather yesterday with a good attendance. The totalisator handled £15,753, as against £20,015 last year, a decrease of £10,202. Additional results:

Sires Produce Stakes, of £000; 7 fur. —5 High Comedy (Green), 1; 2 Cricket Bat (Coveny), 2; 4 Golden Wings (Pine), 3. Also started: ILa Poupee,ll Chief Cook, 7 Richborough, 8 Esteem, 13 Curie, 3 Aspian, 12 Teller, 9 Cape Gold. Trader Horn and White Squall (bracketed); 6 Oratorian. Won by half a length, a head between second and third. Time, 1 min 20sec. La Poupee carried over twice the money that was invested on Cricket Bat. Golden Wings showed the way along the back from High Comedy and La Poupee. High Comedy joined the leader crossing the top. They turned into the straight together, ahead of Cricket Bat and the trio had the finish to themselves, High Comedy winning by half a length from Cricket Bat,, which was a head in front of Golden Wings. Esteem was fourth. The race was run in record time. Awapuni Gold Cup. of £500; 1J miles. —1 Nightmarch, 9.2 (Reed), 1; 5 Vertigern, 9.2 (A. E. Ellis), 2; 4 Historic, 9.2 (B. H. Morris), 3. Also started: 2' Laughing Prince, 9.2; 3 Limerick, 9.2. Won by four lengths, a head between second and third. Time, 2min 6sec. The Cup was not a race, and Nightmarch won as he liked by four lengths. Vertigern was fourth into the straight, but finished well to cut Historic out of second money, heads separating Vertigern, Historic and Laughing Prince. The favourite was at a short price, being three times as well backed as Laughing Prince. He went to the front from the barrier and led from end to end. Consent and Autopay carried over half the investments. Pakitere led early from Autopay and Consent. Into the straight Autopay and Pakitere were together from Consent. Autopay then hit the front and held on to win by half a length from Consent. White Fang was just up in time to secure third money. Chrysology was fourth. Arajean was the early leader, but Laconic was in front along the back and led to the straight from Jenny Diver, Brambletorn, Shatter and King March. Brambletorn. won well from King March, with Jenny Diver a head away. Laconic was fourth.
