CENTRAL DIVISION CONTROL PAST SEASON'S REPORT NEW PROPOSALS CONSIDERED The annual meeting of the Central Division Rugby Referees' Association was held last, night. Members present were: Mesrs. F. Briscoe (chairman), H. C. Johnson, S. Cuff, J. W. Aitken, A. O'Sullivan R. R. Tyrer, R. F. Harkness, W. Egarr, Geo. Collins, (i. Were, L. J. Furrie, C. Pellowe (secretary). Apologies for absence were received from Messrs. T. Glentworth and J. Carlson (Eltham) and A. W. White.

The annual report submitted to the meeting stated that the membership was considerably strengthened and the association had now 23 active members and one life member. Altogether 77 matches were controlled by their referees during the year, and by the little trouble experienced it was evident that their rulings were, in general, acceptable to the players concerned. The appointment of senior referees, the report stated, was not. without fault, and as far as Central Division was concerned it. was necessary that there should be some radical change in that direction in the near future.

Reversion to Oid Rides The reversion to old rules occasioned very little confusion to referees and it was believed that the change was welcomed by most. Regret was expressed that the weekly meetings were not better attended, as the meetings assisted to remove difficulties and maintain a greater measure of uniformity. Thanks were accorded the Junior Appointment Board and the representatives on the executive for work done during the season.

The financial statement showed receipts totalling £5 las fid, including (he sum of £2 15s fid brought forward from last year. Expenditure amounted to All ss, leaving a balance of £4 10s Gd in hand. Carried Without Discussion The motion for the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, moved by Mr. Johnson and seconded by Mr. Were, was carried without discussion. Office Bearers The eleclion of officers resulted as follows: —President. Mr. L. J. Purrie; vice-presidents, Messrs. W. Egarr, P. Briscoe, If. C. Johnson; hon. secretary, Mr. C. Pellowe; delegates to executive, Mr. (J. Collins and secretary; classification committee, Messrs R. F. Darkness, C. Mullaney, H. C. Johnson; nominee to Taranaki Rugby Union, Mr. L. J. Furrie. The election of a representative on the Senior Appointment Board was deferred. New Members Mr. E. Coleman (Cardiff) was elected a member of the division. Alteration to Rules

A full discission took place regarding the following remit from the Northern Division of Taranaki Referees' Association, to be moved at the annual general meeting of the Taranaki Referees' Association, to beheld naki Rugby Referees' Asociation, to he moved at the annual general meeting of th Taranaki Referees' Association, to be held at Stratford on Thursday next: For the purpose of appointing referees to senior matches and cup finals only, there shall he two appointment hoards, one in the Northern Division and one in the Southern Division. These hoards shall consist of three non-active members, to be elected by the respective divisions. The duties of these boards will he to appoint all referees for senior matches and cup finals played within their own division. For the purposes of this rule the boundary between the north and south shall be that as defined by the Taranaki Rugby Union for conducting their senior competition. ' For the purpose of selecting referees for representative matches the Appointment Board shall consist of -the chairman of the Northern Division Appointment Board, together with a third person who is to be elected at trie annual general meeting. This appointee shall not he a member of either the Northern or Southern Divisions, and shall only be called upon to act, should the two chairmen fail to agree. This board shall also act as a Senior Executive classification committee.

It was decided that the principle of the notice of motion be approved with an amendment that the Northern Board consist of two non-active members, one from the North and the other from the Central Division, a third to be elected at the annual meeting of the Taranaki Referees' Association. It was recommended also that referees to cup finals should be appointed by the board for dealing with representative matches. General On the motion of Messrs. Weir and Egarr it. was resolved that a Junior Referee Appointment Board of three members be formed, and Messrs. Aitken, Egarr and Johnson were elected to till the positions.

It was decided on the motion of Messrs. Rgarr and Harkness that the appointment of junior referees be made a fortnight ahead. Jt was arranged that the division hold its meetings on the second Monday in each month. A special vote of thanks was accorded Mr. Aitken Cor Mis services as referee during the pas!, season.

The secretary was voted an honorarium of £2 2s in recognition of his excellent service to the division.
