BOARD'S ACTIVITIES. DECREASE IN NUMBERS. WELLINGTON, March 14. The total number of unemployed registered at labour bureaux throughout the Dominion for the week ended March 9 was 29,941, an apparent increase of 507 when compared with the figure for the previous week. In supplying thisi nformation the Minister of Labour, Hon. S,' Smith, said the returns showed that hew or renewed applications for work totalled 5476, of which 2691 were from persons who had not previously registered during the past 12 months. The total of 13,096 men were qualified for and placed in work under schemes inaugurated by the Unemployment Board. Deducting these from the I Dial applications, it show r ed that there has been an actual reduction for the week of 470.
