“WORLD” GOES OUT
NEWSPAPER’S SWAN SONG NEW YORK, March 1. Copies of “The World” morning newspaper, containing its own obituary, were sold at a dollar each before noon yesterday. It was the last issue, “The World” having been bought by Scripps-Howard interests for £1,000.000, and merged into the “World Telegram.” Judge Foley decided that it was the duty of the three sons of the founder, Mr. Joseph Pulitzer, to sell the property, because the recent year’s operations had lost £600,000, and soon the entire estate might be dissipated. The 2,800 “World" employees attempted to form a co-operative society to keep the paper alive, but were unable to get. together more than £200,000.
