BREACH OF PROMISE
LOWERING OF DIGNITY ENGLISH JUDGE’S COMMENT LONDON, March 14. A bachelor, Judge McHardie, trying a breach of promise case in which a 33-year-old woman was awarded £ls damages against a 33-year-old man who broke an eight-years’ engagement because he met a wealthy Park Lane widow said: f ‘ Instead of assisting womanhood, these actions greatly lower their dignity and there is no more degrading occupation for a Judge and jury." He continued that they did, however, raise the point of whether it was desirable for a girl to accept a man without sotting some time limitation to the engagement.
