FORD COMPETITION CLOSING
Announcement is made in this issue that the closing date of the Ford-owners Letter-Writing Competition has been fixed for Wednesday, April 15. Generous money prizes are being offered owners of the New Ford Car for simple letters telling of their experiences with the car. Details are to he had at the local Ford garag?.
Probably the unstable state of the earth’s crust during the last year or two has led to fears for the future of the volcano Krakatoa, or, more correctly, what is left of it. in ISS3 (his volcano in Sunda Straits burst with cataclysmic violence, shattered the cone, and hurled a cubic mile of material into the air. The island, live miles by three, and over 6,000 ft high, was replaced by a vast submarine trench eight miles long and more than I,oooft. deep. Krakatoa was to all appearance quiescent for 4-1 years after this outburst, but in 1027 activity began in the deep trench and last year a small island crater was raised above sea-level, eventually sinking again below the water. These outbursts show that the shattered volcano is still active, and those who live within reach of its ever-threatening long arm are apprehensive, fearing a repetition of the greatest volcanic outburst recorded in history*
