SIX MONTHS IN A WELL
BENGALI GIRL'S EXPERIENCE. The remarkable story of a young married Bengali girl who was kidnapped and imprisoned in a disused well for six months was told to a Sealdah magistrate. An Indian, Samad Ali, was charged with kidnapping the girl, Gooli Babu, from her mother's house. The prosecution alleged that Samad Ali and his brother enticed the girl from her mother's house on the pretext of taking her to a kineina. In order to avoid detection, he placed her in a well in his house. The girl's mother went to Samad Ali's house with the police and called her daughter, hut though the girl heard she could not reply. She was kept in the well for six months, being taken out each night until she escaped.
